The CPTU Dream Team - Akane, Russell, Kevin, Jeff, Shona - Mod Films and Photos

It was good to be back in Far North Queensland and catch up with new instant trail running buddies while shooting the Cairns Port Douglas Trail Ultra promo clip.

Massive thank you to Colin and Jen from Mod Films and Photos for working their butts off with our motley crew.

The CPTU Dream Team - Akane, Russell, Kevin, Jeff, and myself (Shona).

I can’t thank you enough for such a fantastic time of the trail for the two days and running 15km back and forth on Monday and probably something similar on Tuesday to get the right shots to sell Far North Queensland and the CPTU to Australia and also the world.

The best part about trail running is the people. Trail runners are a particular type of personality, slightly crazy, easy-going, and able to laugh, and it up for anything.

The feeling of solidarity instantly formed with a new trail mate is infectious. I can’t wait to catch up with everyone again.

We hit all the iconic spots, Port Douglas, 4 Mile Beach, Flag Staff Walk, Rex Snead Park, The Bump Track, Barron Falls, Clohesy Fig Tree, Stoney Creek, Crystal Cascades, Copperlude Dam.

We snuck in some course reccies too.

We discovered the New Lanes on the Kennedy Hwy Bridge that crosses the Barron River. We discovered, ran, and measured the new route under the Bridge to allow the runners to cross under the Kennedy Hwy without needing traffic management safely or to disrupt the traffic on the busy highway. I showed the team also how to travel under Stoney Creek Rd through the tunnel for the CPTU120 and CPTU40. I also led the team to the new entrance to Smiths Track and the start of CPTU80 and CPTU20 to avoid Stoney Creek Road again.

I’ll update the maps again for you and reassess the course on ITRA.

  • New Track Between Barron Falls and Jumrum Track

  • Stoney Creek Rd Tunnel

  • Morris Memorial Gates - Change for CPTU20, CPTU80, CPTU120

  • Kennedy HWY Underbridge route

We tricked Colin our videographer into climbing Smiths Track, for the shot of Glacier Rock. At the end of the two days of full-on shooting, we were all brain fried and full of laughs. I am looking forward to May when I'll come up again.
