GOOD TO GO! CPTU 2022

CPTU - Concrete Shoe

YAY! We made it through the Stakeholders meeting and we are set to GO! 🙌🏽 We are arranging the final touches for the BIG DAY! We have the CPTU Concrete Shoe Perpetual Trophies for the hardest and fastest male and female runners in the “Back Up” event.

The CPTU Concrete Shoe trophy will be awarded to the fastest male or female who completes the longest distance. In other words, if you race the CPTU120 and CPTU10 with the fastest accumulated time. If we have no CPTU120 in either the male for female category then we will award it to the 80 and so on. The reason why we have a Concrete Shoe, you may not know this but your race director Shona Stephenson was the first person, either male or female to win the Surf Coast Century trophy. She is paying tribute to Sam Moffatt, the highly respected Rapid Assent Race Director, by developing the CPTU Concrete Shoe with the shoes she wore when designing the course.

Transfers are BOOKED, NO MORE ADD ONS, jump on the FB page and see if you can find someone to ride share.

Here is the link to the Safety Briefing. EVERYONE is required to read the safety briefing before their race.

Mandatory Gear - Weather Forecast

EVERY RUNNER IN CPTU120, 80, 40 AND 20 Must Carry and wear a HI VIS VEST when running next to the Roads.

Cairns Forecast

The Cairns Temps will affect those climbing Smiths Track!

It was HOT yesterday when I was marking the course. Be prepared to take a top off and put it back on when you are in Kuranda or later in the event.

Kuranda Forecast

Kuranda temps are more suitable for running, it is noticeable the change in temperatures between Cairns and the Kuranda Range. These are PERFECT Temps for running. Bring a change of clothes for the night.

Port Douglas Forecast Saturday

24 - 26 Degrees but with a SSE Breeze, hopefully this will push you along the beach just a little bit faster as the wind speed is 22-24km/hour.

Port Douglas Forecast Sunday

Port Douglas Temps will be 21-23 degrees, with a tail wind of 22-28km/hour. The CPTU10 will have a headwind for the first 3.5km, then it will become a tailwind.

We are going with the Fair Weather Kit for the weekend, no need to collect a thermal or wet weather gear. We suggest that all runners who are racing at night pack a change of clothes so you will be dry at night as the temperatures below will drop up on the Kuranda Range. The BIGGEST reason for DNF for ultras is getting cold over night, your body because it is depleted will not have enough energy to keep you warm because all your fuel is being used to run, rather than keep your body temperature regulated. Keep this in mind, and have a base layer ready if you are going to be on the course over night.

We are looking forward to seeing what you can do on the infamous Smiths Track Climb!

We have the WINGS! Massive thank you to Red Bull Australia for supporting the CPTU again, we will have Red Bull at CP2, CP3 and CP5. We will also have some Red Bull at the Start Line of the CPTU120, and 40.

It’s going to be a HOT day in some area’s of the course and using Hammer Fizz or Endurolyte Caps will help keep those cramps away. They will be available at ALL the checkpoints and finishlines of your event, plus we will also have Hammer Heed and hammer Gels, bring a Gel Flask or an extra soft flask to pour your gels into as we are a single use plastic event.

One more day of marking!

We will see you all on Friday or the weekend.

Time to get excitted!
