Postponement of CPTU to 2022

As we hang on and watch the Australia-wide lockdown updates, we sit here with a very difficult decision for our management team.

The inaugural Cairns Port Douglas Trail Ultra is dated for the 20th and 21st of August which is only a fortnight away.  We sit here faced with marked uncertainty as the new COVID-19 variant updates progress.  Closer to home, the current SEQ lock down decisions remain fluid, with now our children being effected.   Daily, we have been waiting for the Premier’s address and some days we forecast potential extension of lock downs, yet with glimpses of the potential relaxations as well.  As we have seen in Victoria, lock downs can be snap decisions made by our Governments that cannot be predicted.  We understand these are necessary to help keep our community safe.  We are also faced with our own ethical consideration of travelling to our remote and vulnerable communities. We would be absolutely devastated if our event was related to bringing COVID-19 to the FNQ region.

The health and safety of our runners, their families, and the community we enter, is of utmost importance to us. With all this in mind, the growing uncertainty as to whether SEQ lock down will be extended, relaxed or reinstated at short notice, leaves us with few options but to postpone the inaugural CPTU.

This will now give you all time to change flight and accommodation plans without penalty. Over 70% of our entrants are from out of regions, and 17% will be coming in from South East Queensland, and as of the Vic and NSW lock downs, many of you have already received the sad news that you are no longer able to attend.

Key members of the CPTU team reside in SEQ, we are a Brisbane-based company and we can not guarantee that our CPTU team will be able to attend.

The Cairns to Port Trail Ultra has now been postponed until 3rd and 4th of September 2022.  If you have any questions, feel free to email Shona below. She will happily answer those for you.

If you’d like your shop items, let us know and we will post those out to you. If you’d like to connect with your online trail running community, and do something positive for August and make use of your training, jump on our STRAVA page and join our Virtual CPTU and connect with like minded people from the CPTU Community.

We hope that you all stay safe, strong, positive and connected.

Cora, Shona and the CPTU Team.
